A membership platform for content creators to monetize their audience through subscriptions and digital sales
Patreon is a platform that allows content creators to monetize their fan base with subscriptions. Fans pay a monthly subscription fee to access exclusive content. Creators can set different price tiers to offer higher-paying fans even more exclusive or customized content.
Up until recently, Patreon was a subscription-only platform, limiting creators to a single form of income. However, Patreon recently rolled out commerce and publishing tools, allowing creators to earn additional revenue by selling digital products.
Patreon does not offer tools for creators to build their online presence. Creators will once again have to rely on other platforms to drive users to their Patreon and grow subscribers.
A controversial limitation of Patreon is the way they handle customer data. Creators have no ownership claim over subscribers and their data. Customer data is owned by Patreon and cannot be exported. If a creator is banned or decides to move to another platform, that creator will have no option to move their subscribers with them. Creators can end up paying high sums of money without having much control over the community they built on the platform.
Hyax is an all-in-one platform built for content creators with their needs in mind. Bloggers, YouTubers, and Influencers can no longer rely on a single form of revenue. Hyax provides its users with multiple ways to monetize their content and create more income streams.
With Hyax, most creators choose to operate under their own domain name (yourdomain.com) so you have full control over your content and data. Where Patreon can ban you for no reason (like many creators have found), Hyax doesn't place restrictions on your account, you're a fully self-served platform.
Content creators can setup subscriptions for their audience to access exclusive content. Just like Patreon. But with Hyax, creators can use their same account to sell digital products and online courses.
Hyax also provides link-in-bio tools to help creators further grow their online presence. Creators can build a dedicated page for all their links. This allows creators to direct traffic to their socials, courses, and online content, while also selling products directly from their link page.
Having a solid community online is the key to success for online content creators. Hyax allows creators to easily provide support, network, and kick off discussions within their online community.
Not to mention the transaction fees Patreon charges...
So we designed a platform built with modern technology in mind — easy to use, feature-rich, and cost-effective.
Pros and Cons of Hyax vs Patreon
Which one is right for you?
We created an ultra-lightweight, super fast and beautiful platform. But because we prioritize speed, there's not as much customization, although new templates are being created as we improve our app.
Hyax is also very much a set it and forget type of app, which means we handle updates, keeping your site online, and adding new features. If you just want to focus on creating content and marketing, Hyax is perfect for you.
Hyax has no restrictions on content, as long as its legal - fraud, scams, CSAM, revenge porn would be examples of the types of content we don't allow. However, certain types of content will not be allowed to use with Stripe, our credit card integration partner. If you host adult content, for example, you would have to sell with crypto only (we do have a crypto add-on available).
Our app also starts at $249 / one-time, which is great for people just wanting to dip their toes into content monetization. As your needs increase, add-ons can increase your file space and features.
Prior to creating Hyax, we used Patreon extensively, and our biggest complaint was that it lacked advanced features and we had to use multiple tools to manage our business.
Patreon has been around for over a decade and has established itself as the go-to platform for creators looking to monetize their content through subscriptions. Some of the most famous podcasters, musicians, and filmmakers have used Patreon at some point in their careers.
Patreon, however, does not play too well with NSFW and controversial content. NSFW creators have been banned in the past without appeal, and controversial creators have had their content taken down without warning. This forces sensored creators to seek other platforms.
After being at the forefront of creator monetizing options for a decade, Patreon has done little regarding innovation. They still have a lot of catching up to do with features when compared to other platforms.
Patreon earns a commission from the revenue you earn. Creators with high revenue will see large sums of money go to Patreon due to percentage-based fees. If a creator wants more features and opts for a higher plan, the commission percentage goes up. So, it's a larger chunk of cash out of your revenue just for a few more features as opposed to charging a set price for more features.
Patreon does not offer creators tools for growing their community of subscribers on the platform. Creators must rely on external tools and platforms to grow their subscribers. When a creator does decide to leave Patreon, they cannot take their subscribers with them as Patreon has primary ownership and control over customer data.
